If you haven’t received your Great West Life/OTIP benefit package by now, you are certainly encouraged to contact the OTIP Call Centre who can verify the member’s address, that one was sent out, and re-issue another if necessary. They can be reached at 1-866-783-6847 (Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 7:00 pm).
Payroll has indicated that they have decided to issue a separate payment for the remedy pay out. If you were employed for the both years you will receive $899 and and $449 directly deposited into your bank if you are currently employed with the board. If you are no longer employed with the board then a cheque will be mailed to the mailing address on file with the ALCDSB payroll department.
This money is not going to be on your T4.
If you do not receive your payout by February 1, 2018 please let a member of the Executive know.
CUPE has launched Phase 2 of the National Survey of Precarious Employment in the Library Sector, and we are inviting library workers to participate in the online survey.
During Phase 1, we surveyed CUPE library workers who work in stand-alone public libraries, defined as a public library that is its own CUPE local, is not part of another local, and has its own collective agreement. We want to thank all those who participated in Phase 1.
In Phase 2, we are inviting library workers who work specifically in the following sectors to participate in the online survey:
school or school board
university
municipality
provincial library system
public library
or other (i.e. special library).
To participate, simply fill out this survey, online, at the following link:
Encourage CUPE library workers in your local to participate in the survey and share the online link. A printable flyer for your members is available here. The quality of the information we gather depends on the number of surveys that are completed.
The survey will expire at midnight on Thursday, November 30th, 2017.
CUPE’s 2014 membership survey revealed that permanent, part-time employment is highest among public library board workers, at 46 per cent. We also learned that 70 per cent of library clerks work part-time hours. The results prompted delegates to the 2015 CUPE National Convention to adopt a resolution to conduct a survey on precarious employment with CUPE library workers across the country.
Responses to the survey are anonymous and confidential.
See attached letter from CUPE’s national officers.
Please go to https://bill115.cupe.on.ca to check if you are on the list to receive compensation for damages as a result of our rights being violated between the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 school years.
If you worked even one day as a CUPE Education Worker during those years you are eligible, full time, part time or casual.
On Saturday the membership elected their Executive, Stewards and committee members and they were sworn in by Kathy Todd, CUPE National Representative. If you have any questions please reach out to you Steward first, then if you need further assistance contact your Executive.

There have been a number of emails coming in regarding going in to set up classrooms for ECE and attending staff meetings by all the groups. There is no paid time for this for any CUPE member. You must speak to your administrator prior to attending the meeting or going into the school to prepare for the first day back and get clarifications as to whether lieu time would be given, do not just assume it will be because it has happened in the past. CUPE does not encourage attending meetings or going into work without being paid, but that is obviously your decision to make. We will never get paid for something we are willing to do for free.
