Watch your email over the summer!
Hi everyone,
Please watch your personal email over the summer as we have provincial bargaining days in July with the Crown and CTA. We will be sending updates out as we get information.
We are also looking for Mobilizers to help out as well. Please contact mobilizer@cupe1479.com for more information. We really need leads in all areas so please reach out for information.
We are hoping to plan a couple of community events over the summer as well. Please watch Facebook and your emails for information- we would love to see you!
CUPE Bursary Award Winners
This year CUPE 1479 voted to have $500 bursaries given to students who are children of CUPE members, graduated high school and going to post secondary in the fall of 2022.
Initially there were 16 applicants, but one was disqualified for not having all the information, one was late and two were submitted twice- so in the end there were 12. We had to do one redraw as this person entered twice and it wasn’t caught before their name was drawn.
Congratulations to our first year winners! Good luck in post secondary

Congratulations STM!
Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. We certainly hope that this year will bring both staff and students a more stable and consistent school year. Everyone did an an exceptional job going above and beyond to support each other and the students we service. You certainly make us all proud to be a CUPE 1479 member.
Please remember to do your attestation and offence declarations. If you are off for 5 days or longer you will require the CUPE medical certificate to be filled out, which is located in the collective agreement. You are always encouraged to contact a member of the executive if you are on a long term sick leave or have had a WSIB missed time claim. We are here to help guide you through the processes and make sure that you have been returned safely to work and have the tools and supports you need in place. If you have a return to work meeting you should always have a member of the Executive with you.
We love that each school has a representative on site to distribute information, but if you require a meeting with your supervisor or Human Resources you really need to have a trained member of the Executive there with you. We are also here to answer and questions and find concerns.
The OSBCU has also resurrected the Education Worker Wednesday campaign! Please wear your CUPE shirts or just take pictures of hard working CUPE members and send a brief summary of what you do to support students success and safety on a daily basis. We will upload them to the CUPE 1479 Twitter and Facebook pages and forward them to the OSBCU to post on the Facebook page as well.
We wish everyone an amazing, happy and healthy school year! Keep safe!

March Break Moved To April 12-16th, 2021
Hello everyone,
As you have all heard by now, March Break is now April Break! If you had booked appointments during the March Break, booked vacation as a 12 month employee it and want to change it or had non refundable travel in the province planned you should reach out and let us know.
We are working with the board to figure out out whether vacation pay in March or April is more beneficial for our members.
You can contact your Steward, Jen Connor-VP West, Steve Caswell-VP East or Liz James-President.
